Boards library

Save board states and racks, search your library, restore snapshots, and sync saved games across signed-in devices.

The Boards library keeps board states you want to revisit. From the manual board editor, tap Save to store the current board and rack, or tap Library to open saved games.

Save a board

A save requires at least one tile on the board. TileTactician stores:

  • a name (the default is Game when no name is entered);
  • the 15×15 tile grid;
  • the current rack; and
  • the game type (Crossplay or Scrabble).

When you tap Save, the editor checks whether the current tile layout looks like a continuation of an existing saved game of the same type. If it finds a match, choose Update to replace that saved game or Save as new to create a separate entry. Otherwise, enter an optional name and save a new board.

Browse and open saved boards

Each library card shows a compact board preview, game-type badge, tile count, saved rack (when present), and relative last-updated time. Use the search field to filter by board name or rack.

  • Tap a card to load its tiles, rack, and game type into the manual editor.
  • Long-press a card for Rename, History, or Delete.
  • Rename changes the card name without changing its board or rack.
  • Delete permanently removes the saved board after confirmation.

An empty library links back to the editor with the instruction to scan a board and tap Save.

Snapshot history

Updating a board with new tiles automatically records the previous state as a snapshot before the current row is overwritten. The library keeps the 20 most recent snapshots for a game. A snapshot contains the previous tile grid, rack, and timestamp.

To use history:

  1. Long-press the board card and choose History.
  2. Review the snapshot preview, tile count, rack, and relative time.
  3. Tap a snapshot and confirm Restore.

Restoring replaces the current board tiles and rack with the selected snapshot. A restore is a rewind, so it does not create another snapshot.

Cloud sync

Signed-in users get bidirectional board sync through the app's cloud board store. The library syncs when it receives focus; saving an authenticated board also pushes an update. Sync pulls remote rows first, then pushes local rows that are newer.

When the same board was edited in more than one place, the updated_at timestamp determines the winner: a newer remote revision replaces an older local revision, while a newer local revision is pushed to the cloud. Deletions use a tombstone so a stale live row cannot silently resurrect a deleted board.

Local data is account-scoped. Boards created in the anonymous/offline bucket are not uploaded merely because an account signs in later; save them again after sign-in if you want them associated with that account. A failed sync does not prevent local board work—the library continues to use its local SQLite copy.

For saved words and their separate sync flow, see Study mode.
