Study mode and saved words

Turn saved plays into a mastery deck, practice two- and three-letter words, and manage your personal word bank.

Study turns the embedded word list and your saved plays into short, repeatable flashcard sessions. Open Word Study from the app, then choose a category before starting a session.

Choose a study category

The category screen offers:

  • Your Word Bank — the words you saved from analysis results;
  • 2-Letter Words — every two-letter word in the loaded trie; and
  • 3-Letter Words — every three-letter word in the loaded trie.

The app loads its dictionary before it builds the two- and three-letter decks. The Word Bank option is disabled until at least one word is saved. Its progress line shows how many saved words are familiar and allows up to 10 cards per session. The two- and three-letter sessions allow up to 20 cards.

How a flashcard session works

Each card shows the word as tiles, its tile value, and (for a Word Bank card) its saved context when available: Crossplay or Scrabble, the score, and the saved board position.

Choose one answer for every card:

  • Familiar records a correct answer and advances to the next card.
  • Keep Practicing records an attempt without adding a correct answer.

The app saves each answer to device storage as it is recorded. A word counts as mastered/familiar after two correct answers. Decks prioritize words with fewer correct answers, then fewer attempts; the Word Bank also uses save recency and alphabetical order as tie-breakers. If you end a session early, the answers already recorded remain saved on that device.

At the end, the summary reports how many cards you marked familiar and how many words in the selected category currently meet the familiarity threshold. Choose Study Again to repeat the category or Choose Category to return to the selection screen.

Build and manage your Word Bank

From any result row, use the bookmark/save control to add a word. The My Words screen lets you:

  • view saved words and their score/position metadata;
  • search the list when it contains more than five entries;
  • tap the definition control for a word lookup;
  • remove a word with the × control; and
  • open a personalized study session with Practice Saved Words.

The study deck deduplicates saved entries by uppercase word and keeps the most recent saved record for that word. A word can retain its board type, score, and position as context while you practice it.

The definition sheet displays the word's definition, optional part of speech, and optional phonetic spelling. It does not promise an example sentence or other fields. The lookup can show a loading state, a missing definition, a timeout, or an unavailable response.

Sync saved words

The My Words screen loads the local word bank first. When you are signed in, it then pulls the account's cloud words and pushes unsynced local rows through the same account-scoped sync flow. The status banner reads Syncing… during the operation and Synced across devices when it finishes.

Cloud merges compare save timestamps; a strictly newer cloud save replaces an older local row. Deletes are represented by tombstones, and a deletion wins an equal timestamp so a stale cloud row cannot resurrect a removed word. Anonymous and signed-in word rows remain separate account buckets.
