Board entry
How to enter the current board state accurately so TileTactician's analysis matches your game.
The grid
TileTactician uses a standard 15×15 Scrabble grid. Each cell can hold one tile. Premium squares (double/triple letter, double/triple word) are marked automatically based on the standard Scrabble layout.
Entering tiles
Tap a cell, then tap the letter you want to place. The tile appears with its standard Scrabble point value. Tap a placed tile to remove it.
Tips for accurate entry
- Start from the center. The first word must cover the center star (H8). If you are entering a mid-game board, work outward from existing tiles.
- Double-check premium squares. The grid highlights premium squares with their standard colors. A tile on the wrong premium square changes every score calculation downstream.
- Use the Share Extension for speed. On iOS, you can share a board screenshot from any app and TileTactician will attempt to read the tiles automatically. See Share Extension.
Blank tiles
Tap the blank-tile toggle (the ? button) before placing a tile to mark it as
a blank. Blanks score zero points but can represent any letter. The solver
treats blanks as wildcards and reports which letter each blank represents in
the result.
Crossplay boards
NYT Crossplay uses the same 15×15 grid. Switch the board format in Settings if your game uses Crossplay-specific premium layouts or rules.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Effect |
|---|---|
| Missing a tile already on the board | Solver plays through occupied cells, producing illegal results |
| Wrong premium square | Scores are miscalculated for every word touching that cell |
| Forgetting a blank | Solver treats it as a fixed letter, missing wildcard plays |
